Maria is a registered clinical social worker providing therapy to those seeking to live a more fulfilling life, by building self-esteem and self-compassion, strengthening relationships, and developing the motivation to take on new challenges.
Many people have doubts and anxieties that prevent them from living the life they want. This can include a fear of helplessness, loneliness, conflict, rejection, or loss. Maria will work with you to increase your sense of inner strength, motivation, independence, safety, and connection with others. She is trained to assist with a variety of issues including:
- Self-worth and self-compassion
- Life transitions (grief, loss, and anticipatory loss)
- Building stronger relationships (family, friendships, and community)
Maria has a special interest in working with grief and loss (e.g. death, illness, relationship loss). She works with people to honour memories, cope with difficult emotions, make meaning of experiences, and most importantly to find a way forward.
Maria has more than ten years of experience working with individuals and families. She began her career as a school counsellor, worked with psychiatric patients in hospital, became a bereavement counsellor, and now works in private practice. Maria holds a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Manitoba. She has training in Marriage and Family Therapy and holds a certificate in Expressive Arts Therapy.
Maria welcomes people of all sexual orientations, gender identities, cultures and spiritual beliefs. She works primarily with adolescents and adults.
